Cinema @ The Cut - THE THIRD MURDER

on Wednesday, 12th December 2018
Venue: The Cut Arts Centre, Halesworth IP19 8BY link
Director Hirokazu Kore-eda, 2017, Japan, 125 mins, with Suzu Hirose, Masaharu Fukuyama, Koji Yakusho, Yuki Saito. A complex 4-star courtroom drama. Misumi is on trial for a murder to which he has confessed. It seems to be a straight forward case, yet his defence lawyer senses that there is more to this than meets the eye. As for Misumi, he seems bent on persuading the jury that he is guilty. The fact that the death sentence still operates in Japan adds to the tension. It’s a captivating plot, full of twists and turns that keep the audience guessing.
